THE VEENS FAMILY

OUR STORY

Rick & Carol Veens, owners of Juicy-Fruit Orchards & Farm Market, purchased their farm in 1986. Previously used as a potato farm, Rick began purchasing root stocks from Holland with intentions to bud his own apple trees from scratch and turn the former potato field into a fruit farm. Each year, he planted more and more fruit trees until the 100 acre farm was completely full. It now hosts several thousand apple, peach, cherry, plum & pear trees.

We begin our season in May starting with asparagus followed by rhubarb, June bearing strawberries as well as ever bearing strawberries, which continue to produce all Spring into the Summer months. Sweet corn is just one of our specialties. After experimenting for many years with different varieties, we've figured out what our customers love best and continue to grow the best on our soil. All summer long, we continue to hand pick beans, peas, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, melons, garlic, onions, zucchini, broccoli & much, much more! Fall time is especially busy on the farm. It's apple season! There are so many varieties to choose from (15+ to be exact). Honey Crisp continues to be one of the biggest sellers as well as Royal Gala, Ginger Gold, Northern Spy & Ambrosia (the list goes on). Pumpkins & squash are in no short supply either!

We’re so lucky our 3 children have also taken up a love for the agriculture industry. Our oldest son Andrew currently works full time on our family farm, our daughter Alicia recently opened and operates her own business (Shale Ridge Estate Winery & Cidery) and our youngest son Brent works for LaSalle Agri full-time, but continues to assist part-time on the family farm when available.

Today, we farm over 110 acres of fruit trees (including 15+ apple varieties, peaches, cherries, plums & pears) and 30+ acres of vegetables. We’re continuing to expand each year as well in order to keep up with the high demand from our customers.

At Juicy-Fruit, we strive to grow the absolute best fruits and vegetables possible for you & your families to enjoy. We cannot thank you enough for shopping locally & continuing to support our family farm!

Our growing family looks forward to seeing you at either our Ravenswood Market or Home Farm! Don’t be afraid to say hi!
